Terms and conditions
Last updated: 5 November 2026
These terms apply when you use the Wardle app and website. By creating an account or playing, you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use Wardle.
Who can play
You must be at least 13 years old, or the minimum age required in your country to use online services without parental consent, whichever is higher.
Your account
- Keep your password safe. You are responsible for activity on your account.
- Use one account per person, and give us a real email address you can access.
- Usernames must not impersonate others or be offensive, hateful or misleading. We may change or remove usernames that break this rule.
Fair play
Wardle is a competitive game, so you must not:
- use solvers, scripts, bots or any tool that plays or suggests guesses for you in rated matches;
- run multiple accounts, deliberately lose, or arrange results to change ratings;
- exploit bugs, interfere with the service, or try to access other players' accounts or our systems;
- harass other players.
We may reset ratings, remove results, or suspend or delete accounts that break these rules.
Opponents
To keep match waiting times short, you may sometimes be matched with a computer-controlled opponent. These matches are rated like any other.
Ratings and seasons
Ratings, leaderboards and seasons are for fun and have no monetary value. We may adjust, rebalance or reset them, for example at the start of a new season.
The service
Wardle is provided free of charge, "as is" and "as available". We may change, pause or end features, or the whole service, at any time. We try to keep Wardle running smoothly but do not guarantee it will always be available or error-free.
Our content
The Wardle name, design and software belong to us. You may not copy, resell or reverse engineer the app except where the law allows it. Wardle is an independent game and is not affiliated with The New York Times or the creators of Wordle.
Liability
To the extent the law allows, we are not liable for indirect or consequential losses, or for loss of data, ratings or progress. Nothing in these terms limits rights you have under consumer protection laws that cannot be waived.
Ending your account
You can delete your account at any time. See the account deletion page. We may suspend or end accounts that break these terms.
Changes
We may update these terms. If the changes are significant, we will tell you in the app. Continuing to play after an update means you accept the new terms.
Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of India, without affecting any mandatory protections you have under the laws of your own country.
